Free Runners Leap at Chance to Perform in Eastbourne Extreme

9 July 2007

Eastbourne Extreme welcomes a new dimension to the show this year as local free running group The Urban Shadows join the free show from 14 – 15 July.

Officially known as Le Parkour, the free running phenomenon which began in France, first came to the UK’s attention in a BBC advert, and more recently in the film Casino Royale, with free runners performing breathtaking jumps across the roofs of buildings.

The team will perform stunts for extreme sports fans at the show on a specially rigged set of scaffolding on the beach.

Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor David Tutt said “I am delighted that The Urban Shadows will get to showcase their talents at Eastbourne Extreme. As a growing sport, it is an ideal addition to the show, and fantastic to see such a strong local team.

Formed 18 months ago by Noxsta, Deamon and Sunny-D (AKA Andy Nock, Adam Nock and Dave Green), the team has gone from strength to strength with 10 accredited members and a further 20 youngsters already training with the team.

As well as performing ‘Dash Vaults’ and incredible ‘Cat Leaps’, the team will be giving spectators the opportunity to have a go at the event using hay bales and crash mats, starting with the ‘Lazy’, a basic move that involves launching legs over a wall from the standing position.

Joining The Urban Shadows in an action packed line up, spectators can look forward Team MAD and stunt rider Lee Musselwhite performing with BMX and mountain bikes on the beach arena. In the skate arena, top skaters perform routines and jumps.

On the water, the formula one style Thundercat power boat racing comes to Eastbourne for the first time, and the UK Windsurfing Association hold their national Freewave competition.

Jetski demos join the watersports line up, along with Eastbourne Rowing Club Regatta, diving sessions from Planet Divers or have a go at sailing or windsurfing with Spray Watersports.

In the air, enjoy colourful kite flying demos from Brighton and Kent Kite Flying Clubs, and SEKA and Kent Land Yachting clubs hits top speeds in their wind powered buggies.

Great for families, the event includes children’s rides and stalls for shopping, a climbing wall, funfair and beach bar, plus EBM Live bring 10 live bands from the region to the ever popular Eastbourne Extreme Band Stage, all adding to the festival atmosphere:
